Job Offer: CTS Train Traffic Systems Controller-Engineer

We want a CTS Train Traffic Systems Controller-Engineer who will develop, support and deliver computer automated system and testing strategies and solutions for large-scale applications. This role requires operating the system as the Train Traffic Systems Controller collaborating with other technical & managerial staff members in emergency situations.  And gathering and analyzing data, and responding to situation and alerting the Planetary President so she can mitigate any emergency situation, delays and disruptions. 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties listed below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be interpreted as an exhaustive list of responsibilities:

  • Support the Agency’s technology infrastructure, including application and database servers (Wintel, Linux), storage solutions, underlying networking infrastructure and communication solutions.
  • Assist in preparing the long term and tactical planning for infrastructure capacity ensuring that capacity will meet current and future application and transaction processing requirements.
  • Assist in defining strategic and tactical technology solutions, justify and implement these solutions and ensures the computing infrastructure in place is stable and available to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Develop and coordinate relationships with technology solution providers and control the cost of the agency’s technology infrastructure.
  • Assist in preparing technical specifications and procedures for hardware, software and network applications.
  • Provide ongoing coordination in the analysis, acquisition and installation of hardware and software elements of the technical infrastructure. Define, apply and enforce standards and technology methodologies.
    • Develop and manage key performance indicators for Operations, work with various departments to ensure accuracy and timeliness of data.
    • Track corrective actions assigned to various groups to ensure timely response of issues in efforts to improve key performance indicators for Operations.
    • Produce various reports of key performance indicators for Operations.
    • Produce and operate the Train Traffic Control systems and infrastructure to achieve established service levels. Coordinate with the Rail Operations Controller-Dispatcher (ROCD). And represent the planetary system at industry committees on Higher Reliability, Railroad Sensor Control and Capacity Train Control and other train control next generation projects.
    • Evaluate operational impacts of next generation applications and software development projects. Build business cases for proposed implementations.
    • Participate in quality control efforts in testing newly released software functionality in a lab environment.
    • Perform field work including inspections, field diagnostics surveys and measurements.
    • May be responsible for a specialty program area that has a major impact on the organization.
    • Prefer but not required to perform train simulation modeling and utilize train performance software tools (Tableau) to analyze optimizing capacity. Manage simulation data and develop reports. Perform detailed quality assurance checks of proposed schedules before finalizing for implementation.
  • Assist in the installation and testing of new desktop components, new applications, operating systems and upgrades to ensure compatibility with overall train control networking operations.
  • Plan and writes reports, memorandums, and instructional manuals as documentation of operating system and application configurations.
  • Assist in identifying, evaluating and managing third party vendors, technology or processes for integrating with CTS technology and equipment.
  • Build relationships, promote, and work well in a collaborative team environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of (4) years of work experience in information technology, directly related to the design and development of software solutions.
  • A combination of training, education and or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered when determining minimum qualifications. Advanced relevant coursework may also substitute for a portion of required experience.
  • A valid Class “C” California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record 

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Industry software development methodologies, standards and architecture frameworks
  • Programming
  • Windows Shell Command
  • File System Object (FSO)

Skilled in:

  • Project management, planning and organization
  • Demonstrated experience programming with DOORS Extension Language (DXL)
  • IBM Doors application upgrades
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills, both in written and orally

Ability to:

  • Adapt and learn new technologies
  • Explain complex technical information to technical and non-technical contacts

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Transition between standing, walking and sitting at varying lengths of time
  • Climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Use hands to finger, handle, feel and grasp tools to perform the duties of the position
  • Ability to lift, hold and move objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Hear and perceive the nature of sounds
  • Listen and express or exchange ideas by means of spoken words
  • Visual acuity

Working Conditions
Position requires work outdoors around CTS railroads with some exposure to noise, dust, or temperature and indoor work in a normal office environment.

Part-Time Pay:  $32.62 – $41.79 Hourly
